Sir,
While I applaud your ability to type, your lack of ability to differentiate between fact and fiction and the credibility of your information leave much to be desired. To perpetuate Ric Gillespie's outrageous claims that this plane is:
The oldest P-38 in existence--total false hood
The oldest 8th AF "combat" aircraft-- yet to be proved
Largely in tact and free of corrosion-- prop and guns are known to be gone and look at the pictures
TIGHAR does not participate in recovery or restoration of aircraft rather it collects money to send its members on paid vacations to remote areas around the world.
As for Glacier Girl being remanufactured, I can guess whose pulling your strings but suggest you look at the aircraft and talk to Bob Cardin before you make such a callous and slandering a statement
America is a great country where all can proclaim their beliefs but sometimes you should make a choice to speak your mind and not parrot someone else's views

Dear Joe,
all these facts are based on a official TIGHAR Press Release.
I'm not in the position to judge on the given information.

Tell me more I would guess the beach on the Island of Anglesey it could be Long Beach near Valley (see Valley "aerodrome") and Rhosneigr, my Dad used to be stationed there in WWII he was in Royal Engineers, and had something to do with the Free French.

If anybody knows more please write to me at

A very interesting find and one that will add to the vintage warbird ranks.
I wish the team well in their recovery. Should the aircraft find a display home I have
a pair of brand new old stock drop tanks.

My best,

Dear Michael,

Props on your information. This is my favorite design by Lockheed, I'm glad to know that one was found in such good condition given how many are still around. "Reletively" good condition, i mean it is 65 years old.

I'm an american. not all americans are slandering duches like Joe Meyers. Good job. I was actually surprised that the U.S. didn't claim it. You'd think that they would. So that's cool, Welles gets a P-38 for their museum. Score the UK
